How I miss you
like a mother seahorse misses her abandoned eggs.
How I need you
like a snake needs its mama.
If you only knew this,
it would solve all our problems.
We could love like antelope.
We could long for each other like orangutans.
And we could need each other
as chickens and roosters do.
If we weren't such animals
I'd tell you I don't like you.

have become so materialistic and
have so overly domesticated ourselves
that we may never return home.
Just as a dog
will never again be a wolf
A human will never again
be a natural presence on this earth.
Looking around me,
I cannot escape this fact.
I see a fence, a mailbox,
a picnic table, a pool, a house.
All, man-made intrusions upon
the poorer creatures' world.
The only place I look
which does not carry these scars
is the ground.
Just brown leaves, acorns, sticks
and dirt reside here.
But, if you look close enough
even those are marred.

and not just that fake,
plastered on beauty.
I was natural.
My under eye circles weren't so dark,
my eyebrows laid right,
my pimples went away,
and my hair was all
shimmery and flowy.
I wore old sneakers,
ripped jeans,
a faded blue T-shirt,
and an ugly flannel jacket.
But even then,
the sun kept shining on me!
Yet all I felt was sad.
Sad, because all my beauty today
was wasted
with nowhere to go
and no one to see me.
